For thousands of years, the Peloponnese has been one of the biggest and most exciting wine producing regions in Greece, with a fine combination of tradition, innovation and rare varieties that are enjoying a creative revival. Probably the most important grape growing area in the Peloponnese and, the biggest in Greece with a Protected Designation of Origin (POD) for its red varieties, is Nemea.

Nemea’s wines and vineyards, located close to important archeological and historical places of interest, such as Mycenae, Epidaurus and Nafplio, have been renowned since ancient times. Among other, the “Agiorgitiko” variety, a favorite of the mythical king Agamemnon,  is the most celebrated, with the finest examples coming from small vineyards, having aged in both oak barrels and bottle for several years.

In nearby Arcadia prefecture and the area of Mantineia, the pink-skinned “Moschofilero” variety yields strong flavored whites that are increasingly gaining sophisticated fans.

Now, all adventurous wine appreciators can explore the multiple facets of the area’s exciting wines in true style, setting off their discovery journey from one of the luxury Blue Mosaic villas. Our recently completed luxury Villa Negroni, situated among pine, cypress and olive trees and just 20 meters from a secluded beach, is perfectly located to offer easy access to both wine areas of Nemea and Mantineia.

Blue Mosaic can offer you a truly exciting wine discovery experience, with a tailored program of activities that range from practical experience at a vineyard, grape collection, wine making seminars, chef private dining with a selection of local wines and local cuisine and, guided wine tours in the area of Nemea, by bicycle or car.

It has been known for a long-time that Mathematics played a significant role in the life of ancient Greeks. Many of their buildings, with the Parthenon as the perfect example, adhered to strict geometric rules.

Well, it goes beyond that! It seems that even the location of some of the most important buildings was based on geometric shapes, providing an invisible link between them. One of the most famous such placements is the perfect isosceles triangle formed between the Acropolis of Athens, the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion and the Temple of Aphaia Athena at Aegina Island.

One of the great glories of ancient Greek art, the Temple of Aphaia is among the most extant examples of classical Doric architecture. Once adorned with an exquisite group of sculptures (now in the Munich Glyptothek), it still proudly bears 25 of its original 32 columns, which were either left standing or have been reconstructed. The structure is perched on a pine-clad promontory, offering superb views of Athens across the water.

It so happens that even in modern times, the area contained within this triangle, the Athens Riviera, to be one of the most exciting and vibrant for visitors in Greece.
If you want to explore Athens and the Athens Riviera Triangle in style, the Blue Mosaic luxury villas on the island of Aegina offer the perfect launching base! Set right on the beach, they offer unique designs, high standards of accommodation, comfort and recreation. Within easy reach of Athens, Athens Riviera, Cape Sounio and the Temple of Poseidon, Epidavros Ancient Theatre, the cosmopolitan islands of Spetses and Hydra and the Temple of Aphaia on the island, they can be combined with one of our exciting yachting options for a truly unforgettable experience.

You can find out more about the Athens Riviera Triangle and our selection of villas by emailing  us at info@bluemosaic.gr.

We knew that our endeavors with Blue Mosaic would face a stiff competition but never thought that it would be such a sweet competition that comes in the form of the traditional “loukoumi”. One of the simplest pleasures that you can enjoy in Greece!

Over two days, 23rd and 24th August, the colourful “loukoumia” will become the raw materials in the hands of artists to create unique – and sweet – pieces of mosaic art! The artwork will take place at Syros, during the 2nd “Loukoumi” Festival that will transform Syros town into a bohemian “Loukoumartre”!

For the unfamiliar ones, Syros is almost a synonym for “loukoumia”! The history of the traditional sweet “loukoumi” at the island dates back to the 19th century and has been exported for more than 150 years.

The ingredients are simple … sugar, starch and sugar, enriched with pistachios, hazelnuts, walnuts, rosewater, mastic, cinnamon and other flavouring materials, before applying a generous cover of icing sugar!

With the northern seasonal wind, called ‘meltemi’ blowing throughout July and August, the Aegean transforms into an exciting playground for adventure, adrenaline, tactics, endurance and teamwork.

The annual Aegean Rally, now in its 51st year, is the perfect occasion to be part of a unique experience. Considered the biggest sailing race in Greece and one of the most difficult in Europe, it covers almost 450 nautical miles over a week around the Aegean.

This year, the Aegean Rally race course has taken the participants to Milos, Astypalaia and Ios, before the spectacular finish under the Poseidon temple in Sounio.

But it is not all about riding the waves – the magic behind the event is that it is an excellent opportunity to visit the Greek islands, experience the local culture, party until the sun comes up and meet like-minded people – people that value freedom as much as you do.

If this is something that you want to be part of, the Blue Mosaic team has been part of the Aegean Rally event for many years and ready to share with you the opportunity to experience the winds in the Aegean Sea.

Until then, you can enjoy the imagery from the comfort of your chair!

Ever wonder about the truth behind Greek mythology?

People around the world grow up with exciting stories from the Greek mythology. Their impact has been so profound that they have had a long lasting effect on a global scale across a number of areas, such as education, politics, philosophy, art and science.

You may read a view for some of them through the BBC article or better, you can visit Greece and discover for yourself the truth behind the Greek myths! Or, you may want to just stick with the myth…

Read the BBC article here.

You think that your wife takes a long time getting ready? Think again!

For thousands of years, the six elegant sisters were standing at the top of the Acropolis bearing the marks of time as years passed. Over the centuries, a coat of black grime came to mask their beauty, although it could never mask the violent kidnapping of one of them in the 19th century.

However, the time has come to display the remaining five in their original ivory glow, revealing their full glory. For three and a half years, conservators at the Acropolics Museum have been cleaning the Caryatid statues, Ionic columns in female form, using a specially developed laser technology.

We think that is worth visiting Greece just to see with your eyes the great divas of ancient Greece, including the empty space that is awaiting the return of the sixth sister for almost 200 years. In the meantime, you can get a glimpse of this unique process and the results that have been achieved in the following video.

Preparing Caryatids for the world
